A Double-wide Transformed
A small, pre-fabricated house was surrounded by the meadows of a fifty-acre horse farm. Its owners wanted to upgrade, and they faced a choice: move, demolish and build anew, or try to work with the existing structure. The unique, beautiful site precluded the first option. A tight budget precluded the second. We agreed to explore the third. The solution — removing the original roof and adding a second floor — took advantage of the existing spaces on the first and basement levels, added needed bedroom spaces, and at the same time transformed the original house into an English cottage.
Ten years later, the surrounding horse farm is being developed with twenty new houses, each carefully sited for views and privacy. The style… English cottages!
